What is Staying IN: Hayward?

These are stressful and difficult times for community members. Amid these challenges, Hayward is a supportive, resilient community full positive examples of humanity.

The Student Initiative Center at Chabot College partnered with Chabot English students to create this website: “Staying IN: Hayward.” The website features close to 100 slide presentations, each translated into another language showcasing the diversity of the Hayward community. Almost 20 different languages are represented. This website is a trove of student creativity, empathy, and resourcefulness.

This effort stemmed from a long-term community engagement partnership between Chabot College and the City of Hayward. Over the past three years, the City, College, and Student Initiative Center have collaborated to create art shows, community needs assessments, pop-up festivals, food distribution, and census outreach.

As we move into the 4th year of this collaboration and face the unprecedented challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are dedicated to continuing to work on projects that foster hope, resilience, and local leadership in Hayward neighborhoods.
