Tennyson Thrives

Tennyson Thrives is a collaborative effort between community members, Hayward City staff, and the Chabot College Student Initiative Center to create and implement a dynamic Vision Plan for the neighborhoods along the Tennyson Corridor. Spring 2018: The Interviews and Art

Students interviewed over 150 South Hayward residents and 50 community-based organizations about the strengths and weaknesses of their community.

Chabot College is very committed to working with the city of Hayward. It is frequently talked about at the highest levels of Chabot administration. From the perspective of faculty, there is also a lot of interest. We see how this kind of collaboration fits with our teaching philosophies of Project Based Learning and Community Service.

Spring 2018: Needles in the HayStack Art Exhibit

The SIC hosted a community-inspired art exhibit at Hayward City Hall from May 21-31, 2018. The art, which was the culmination of interviews with dozens of community members and 50 community-based organizations, unveiled the dreams and concerns of South Hayward residents.

Summer 2018: Palma Ceia Fest

The SIC is currently organizing a free, family-friendly community event is an extension of the work the Student Initiative Center has been doing with the City of Hayward to raise awareness of— and begin to address— issues found in the community
